Navigating Challenging Scenarios

Have you ever found yourself in a tricky situation with a client, contractor, or project and wondered, “How did we get here, and what should I do next?” I certainly have.

Challenging situations are an inevitable part of running a landscape design practice. Misunderstandings arise, expectations shift, boundaries get tested, projects change, and occasionally a client relationship simply becomes difficult.

In this live class, we will look at common challenging scenarios that landscape designers encounter and explore practical ways to respond with greater clarity, confidence, and professionalism. We will consider the role of communication, expectations, boundaries, documentation, proactive problem-solving, and client alignment in both preventing problems and navigating them when they occur.

We will also discuss how to recognize potential warning signs earlier, when a situation may require a more direct response, and how lessons from difficult projects can help you strengthen your business practices going forward.

The goal is not to give you a perfect script for every difficult situation. It is to help you develop a more thoughtful framework for assessing what is happening, deciding how to respond, and protecting your time, expertise, client relationships, and business.

The class includes a question-and-answer period with Mardi, so come with your dilemmas!

You will also receive a companion 15-page workbook with prompts, strategies, and practical exercises to help you translate the contents of this class into your unique practice, so you can identifying where stronger communication, boundaries, systems, or policies would make challenging situations easier to navigate.

WHAT STUDENTS HAVE SAID ABOUT MARDI'S COURSES:

"I recently took your "Identifying Your Ideal Client" course for my NC license renewal, and I have to say, it was one of the few CE experiences I've actually enjoyed and walked away using. Most online CE is a box to check; this wasn't. Thank you."

Alex Purdy, NC Landscape Contractor

"Even if I can't immediately define it, if something doesn't feel right, I now have a process to figure out why it doesn't feel right and can create a plan to pivot to something more aligned with the business I'm building."
