Have you ever found yourself in a tricky situation with a client, contractor, collaborator, or project and wondered, “How did we get here, and what should I do next?” I certainly have.

Whether you are a landscape designer, landscape architect, or landscape contractor, challenging situations are part of professional practice. Clients change direction. Expectations drift. Boundaries get tested. Scope expands. Materials become unavailable. Unexpected site conditions arise. And sometimes different people involved in a project simply see the problem differently.

Some of these situations cannot be avoided. But many can be reduced, redirected, or prevented when expectations, roles, communication, boundaries, and project systems are clear from the start.

In this live 90-minute class, we will explore common challenging scenarios landscape professionals encounter and practical ways to approach them with greater clarity, confidence, and professionalism.

There may be hundreds of difficult situations you encounter over the course of your career. Fortunately, you do not need hundreds of different strategies for handling them.

Instead, we will focus on a smaller set of strong principles built around two ideas:  Prevent what you can. Respond well to what you cannot.

When a difficult situation does arise, you will learn to step back and consider:  What happened? What matters? What is my responsibility? What is the best next step? What needs to be documented?

We will look at how clearer expectations, stronger communication, well-defined roles and boundaries, thoughtful documentation, and sound professional judgment can help you prevent problems when possible and respond more effectively when they still occur.

The goal is not to give you a perfect script for every difficult situation. It is to help you develop a practical framework for deciding what a situation requires from you as a professional and how to move forward thoughtfully.

Bring Your Questions

The class includes a live question-and-answer period with Mardi, so come with the challenging situations you have encountered in your own practice.

15-Page Companion Workbook Included

You will also receive a 15-page companion workbook with prompts, strategies, and practical exercises to help you apply the principles from the class to your own practice and identify where clearer expectations, stronger communication, better systems, thoughtful documentation, or more intentional policies could make challenging situations easier to prevent and navigate.

Great landscape professionals are not defined by the absence of difficult situations. They are defined by how they lead through them.
